My Overall Thoughts On Peak Design’s Tech Pouch

As a freelance journalist, TJ has over a decade of multi-medium storytelling under his belt. In terms of overall aesthetics, this bag is refreshingly minimalist from afar, and it was a pleasure to tow around town, whether on my back or by my side. The 400D double poly-coated nylon canvas shell felt tough as nails right from the get-go — in a future-chic kind of way. The bag is solid, but we’ve already noticed a lot of wear and tear on the edges of the FlexFold Dividers—not a good sign after only a few weeks of testing.

Simply unhook the zipper pull, thread it through a loop, and hook it back together. There are three handles on the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L (V2). The two on the sides are functional, nicely padded, and easy to grab—although if you have a taller water bottle or a tripod on the side, you may not be able to take full advantage of the side handle.

I traveled for two weeks with only my Away Bigger Carry-On and the Peak Design 30L backpack, and as a habitual over-packer, I love using this bag as my personal item. This travel backpack protects your belongings from the elements anywhere your travels take you. We aren’t kidding when we say this pocket is easy to forget (though we recommend keeping better track of your passport). The stitching used on the top pocket is gray on the wearer’s right side and black on the left.

As usual, our go-to hack is to use packing cubes to make the most out of every inch of space available. They stay up like the sturdy walls of a suitcase, and even the back panel is quite rigid on its own. Mind you, all of this structuredness is achieved without compromising carrying comfort. The main compartment is guarded by Zoom zippers that are quite beefy and feature Hypalon pulls on O-rings.

It even gets a nice sheen thanks to the DWR coating on the 400D nylon fabric, which, by the way, still has the same durability. There’s also a Sage colorway, which looks more heritage, with small leather tabs replacing the Hypalon ones on the Black model. Our luxury house plans combine size and style into a single design.

So you can keep your charged batteries on one side and your dead ones on the other. Whether or not that’s useful is totally up to you, but we like it. You can use those colors to organize your bag, keeping a mental note about what’s in which pocket—whether it’s camera batteries, sunglasses, a power bank, or anything else. And the black and gray looks cleaner than the red and blue stitching in V1. Also, when the MagLatch is attached in the top position, the fabric on the top of the bag can stick out on the sides and potentially allow rain, snow, or sneaky pickpockets inside. The weather-resistance of the Everyday Backpack’s material is great, but it doesn’t do too well if it’s left open.

Of course, the absence of drastic change isn’t an inherently bad thing. In our eyes, Peak Design has always been on point with their aesthetics. Whether it’s their Field Pouch V2 or their Everyday Totepack 20L (V2), they blend just the right amount of opposing lines and curves to for distinctly good-looking Peak Design gear.

Each side flap opens up to reveal some simple, solid organization. A pocket on top that closes with—yep, more magnets—and a zippered pocket below. Pull down on the metal loop to disengage the magnet and open the bag. When you’ve got what you need, simply pull that loop below the desired rung and let the magnets do the rest.

But its smaller form makes the 30L perfect for everyday use as well. Our design team can make changes to any plan, big or small, to make it perfect for your needs. Our Cost-to-Build Reports will get you the cost to build a specific house design in a specific zip code. Got a favorite local shop that would be the perfect fit for Peak Design gear? Or, are you a retailer who would like to start carrying our products? You should also keep the purchase receipt for proof-of-purchase so that you can access the warranty coverage should issues arise with your backpack.

Your mileage may vary, of course, depending on what clothes, cubes, and pouches you’re rolling with. Regardless, there is plenty of space, plus there are pockets all around in case you need more granular organization. You can also put it inside the zippered pocket at the front side of the compartment.

The Travel Backpack 30L also has an optional padded removable hip belt that helps maintain balance and provide extra support when carrying heavier loads. The Peak Design 30L backpack has mesh pockets, which are perfect for storing items you want to grab quickly, like toiletries, snacks, or water bottles.

We’ve been testing the Everyday Backpack 30L (V2) for the last three weeks in Detroit, Michigan, both as a camera bag and an everyday carry backpack. Lastly, just below the side handles on the outside are low-profile water bottle pockets. We just dig how well they fit and blend into the fabric of the Travel Backpack; you probably wouldn’t notice them right away. But they’re definitely there, and they can hold a bottle firmly thanks to some built-in elastic and gusseted sides. Speaking of sitting around at the airport, on the upper left side of the back is an ID or luggage tag pocket; the same one is featured on the larger 45-liter Travel Backpack. We weren’t the biggest fans of it since it’s fairly easy to miss, which kind of defeats the purpose of an ID.

The way this backpack opens makes packing and unpacking quick and easy, especially if you don’t have TSA Pre-Check and need to take things out at security. Peak Design builds their backpacks with the best materials using quality craftsmanship to ensure each bag’s durability and longevity. Peak Design’s backpacks can be on the higher end of the price range, but are a brilliant investment for frequent travelers. Sit down and make a list of the things you’re planning on using your backpack for.

You can attach a decent amount of accessories to these loops, and there’s even one on each of the aluminum adjusters in case you need more. On that note, aluminum adjusters always come with the risk of being too slippery since metal is smooth. Fortunately, these ones have enough grip that they stay in place after we’ve adjusted them.
